iTunes loaded unwanted songs to iPad - how do I delete them?

About two weeks ago, iTunes loaded a dozen songs to my iPad. I don't have autosync set up, and did not want to load them. However, at this point, I can't delete them. Here's what I've tried:

- Going into iTunes to manage content does not work - it does not recognize that they are on the iPad.

- 'swipe left to delete' is not active for these songs.

- I tried to go into General->Usage->Manage Storage to delete all music from my iPad - it deleted everything EXCEPT for the unwanted songs.

Anyone else have this issue? Better still, anyone else have a resolution to this issue?

Note: At the same time, it also loaded songs to my iPhone 5S, but I was able to delete them from the phone.
