Sound distortion iphone 6 when using earphones

I am getting distortion on the sound of my new (2 days old) i phone 6 when using the earphones for normal phone conversations had no similar problem with the 5. Seems others have had this issue from forum going back to december but tried all those suggestions . Any other suggestions other than turning down the volume which really should not be necessary?
