iPhone 6 ios 8.3 won't go to sleep

I Recently noticed that my battery life has been terrible on my phone. Then I started to piece together that it actually was never going to sleep. If the device is unlocked, it will stay on until it dies. If you just look at the lock screen it goes back off like normal. I have checked and rechecked my settings to no avail. This all seemed to start, or at least I noticed it, when I first paired my apple watch. Has anyone else had similar experiences to this?
