Q: TextEdit iCloud documents gone after upgrading from Mavericks

I recently had a clean install and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. I saved all the files I needed to transfer on an external hard drive, but left my TextEdit documents in the iCloud. Now when I opened TextEdit I noticed that most are gone! All my documents were autosaved on iCloud, but for some reason most of them are gone now. I have checked the ~/Library/Mobile Documents/TextEdit as well, but they're not there either. As I understand it Apple used a different version of iCloud for TextEdit pre-Yoesmite, which is separate from the new one. Is there any way of getting these files back?

I don't have access to any Mac with Mavericks installed, so can't check if it works on a Mavericks computer either.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
