Sorry, but the iphone is very capable of allowing the FM chip to work. It’s a matter of software. Not hardware. Apple doesn’t want to enable it. With a bit of time and patience, a tech savvy person like myself is very capable of activating the FM feature. I’ve been successful in doing it with my iPhone 6
Yes it does have a very capable FM receiver. All Broadcom chips do. Stop with this ******** about it being there but not connected. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.macrumors.com/2017/09/28/apple-still-urged-to-e nable-fm-radio-in-iphone/amp/
Not sure what rock you’ve been living under. But hackers have been enabling it. Mine included. Not to mention I just posted two links that prove the FM chips are capable of being easily activated. Not my fault that you refuse to accept it. Been hacking my iphones for years.

You did? Where? All I saw two links to the same article that primarily quoted a broadcasting lobbying group and an FCC chairman known for his strong sympathies for broadcasting industry.

What part of the "rumours" element of those links do you not understand?
There Is an entire industry based on making up stuff about Apple to generate eyeballs for ads. Sound familiar?
Any government official that implies public safety is being compromised by Apple's lack of action is not to be believed.

The irony is in the fact that after hurricane Harvey decimated Houston only cell phones worked. All of the radio stations were off the air.

Exactly. Devastation is devastation. What broadcaster's signal is able to reach Puerto Rico at present for an FM radio to intercept?
Add to that, if you check FEMA's "preparedness" checklist(s) for hurricanes, there is zero mention of either a cellphone (with or without FM radio functionality) or even a portable radio itself.
The FCC seems to place a higher value on FM radio than FEMA.

I still don't see the links to articles explaining how the chip can be easily activated. I'd be very interested in reading them.
Do you know how many operating radio stations were left in PR after Maria? Zero. They finally got WAPA operating after a few days, and by then there was limited cel coverage in some parts of the island.

This is a non-issue promoted by greedy radio broadcasters who are terrified that no one will want to listen to radio anymore with all of the streaming services available.
Yup.

Second, who wants to or can pay for audio entertainment all of the time that is disconnected
My iPhone (and my old Touch) is quite capable of providing me with entertainment that is far more in accord with my taste than FM radio even when I'm disconnected from a data source. I have no trouble loading music from my own vast collection onto them with iTunes.
If you have issues with iTunes and Music, submit your feedback to Apple here:
Meanwhile, I'll go back to enjoying music that I paid for (either up front or by subscription) with no ad, station breaks or annoying dj's.
Best of luck.
This has what to do with enabling the FM receiver in the iPhone?
Ummm yes there is. Not sure where you got your information from. But iPhones do in fact have FM receivers in them.
Read my post, right above yours.
