Problems with Updating to 10.10.3

Hey guys,

I have a few issues with our MacPro (Early 2008). Here are the specs:

2x 3 GHz Quad Core intel xeon

32GB Ram

NVIDIA Quadro 400

Currently running 10.10.2 with no issues. I tried to install the updating using Software Update. Software update is able to find the needed update, and when I hit UPDATE ALL or just Update the individual (OSX Update 10.10.3 or OS X Yosemite Recovery Update 1.0) it downloads, and when prompted to restart it will immediately restart without appearing to install anything.

The machine will restart and still be 10.10.2 and will show the updates that are still needed.

This is what I have tried:

1. Repaired Disk permissions

2. Downloaded the Combo Update and tried, same results, just prompts to restart and immediately restarts without appearing to install anything

3. Booted into recovery mode, went to terminal and reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs and rebooted.

4. Deleted /var/folders/zz

Any other tips?!

Thanks in advance.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.

If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.

There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.

*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
