Contacts Missing

I put off upgrading to iOS 8, but finally had to do it. I upgraded from iOS 7 to iOS 8.3. I have been having issues with wifi and slowness, which I am working on. But I just saw that all of my contact information is missing! the headers are on the left but all of the information in each record is gone. does anyone know why and how to get them back? I use an iPad 3' thank you.
