I have several iMac's that I'm trying to use Chicken of VNC to connect to. I have one iMac that will not accept connections. I've set it up the same as all the other systems - and I can get to and from all the other systems. Apple Remote Desktop is enabled, its reporting the proper IP address in config screen also. I have a password for VNC users entered. Any suggestions?
iMac G5- 20 - 2GB, 250GB HD. & iMac G5-17, 150GB + some XP/2003 stuff,
Mac OS X (10.4.7)
In System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall create a new item (use "Other"), naming it "VNC", opening ports 5900-5902. After creating it check that it is ticked. An older version of ARD may not be opening those ports.
Thanks. Bit of playing around and it finally kicked in. Adding a specific entry rather than letting the one for RDC do the 5900 entry seems to have been the issue.
If you dbl-klik on the ARD Firewall item on that Mac you'll probably find that, unlike your other Macs, it doesn't mention 5900. Also you may spot a typo by Apple – "3238" instead of what it should be, "3283". Of no consequence – it's just in the blurb.
