How to set-up a recording studio

Can someone tell me what I need to set up a home recording studio? I have an iMacG5 desktop, Garageband 2 and M-Audio ProKeys 88. My son wants to record his music onto a CD using his Prokeys piano or acoustic piano. Can someone please give me advice on an entry level system? If the ProKeys cannot be used any other recommendation is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Since I like the sounds on my keyboard and the virtual sounds in Garageband I have connected my keyboard via both MIDI and the sound outs. This allows me to record sounds on the software instrument tracks and the Real instrument tracks.

Since you have a G5 and a nice keyboard you may want to invest a little more in a Firewire Interface. I would look for one with MIDI and audio capabilities.

There are scads of USB interfaces as well.

If you want to go a cheaper route look at my set up:
I get very quiet input and excellent gain control with the mixer and the MIDI works flawlessly, the controller adding some nice features:

If you get a interface you won't need a mixer. If you need a mixer for something else then you could get a firewire mixer. To record a real piano I would use a condenser mic into some type of interface.

Because you want to record using mic and keybord audio and maybe Midi you should just get one interface that will do both audio signal and Midi.
