Previous iPhone messages on Mac

hey guys so today I purchased my first mac machine and I went with the macbook pro with retina so far i am really enjoying it but with messages i can not seem to download/sync my previous messages from my iphone only new conversation or conversations started after setting up messages on my macbook can I not download all of my iphone messages and previous conversation history?
