Using the AppStore should be enough if your Mac meets the requirements. 🙂

knew how to do that, but how do I upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to Yosemite? I am having problems finding what upgrades I must do to reach my goal.. I keep getting response that my computer can't upgrade this....do I need to upgrade to something in between before going to Yosemite?
You can just go straight to Yosemite... do you run into any issues when you try to do that?
In 10.6.8 when you go to the App Store, you don't see Yosemite upgrade at top?
Or are you asking something else when you say upgrades?
What model Mac do you have?
Pete.
keep getting response that I can't do this....do I need an upgrade to get Maverick or something?
No, you don't, that means your Mac is not compatible.
There is no intermediate upgrade required. What model of Mac do you have? What is the exact error message?
seems as though it will not run Yosemite because I get response "This version of OS X 10.10 cannot be installed on this computer"...what do I need to do?
Buy a later model Mac that will run it.
Pete

Lion (10.7) will be the highest possible for that model.
that is what I was afraid of... this is for my obviously older mac and I just wanted to try to make it comparable to the one I normally use... thanks for all of the advice... do you think I will gain much by upgrading to Lion or just leave this one on 10.6.8?
My vote would be for Snow Leopard, as I feel it is one of the best OS X offerings.
