Work out app on my apple watch keeps pausing

my work out app keeps pausing on my apple watch when the screen shuts off after about 45 seconds. I'd like to find out how to fix. I can't use this watch for work outs at all if it keeps doing this. Only time I got longer then that I had to hold up my arm and touch the screen every 20 seconds to keep it from going off. That kind of makes a work out hard to do and shouldn't have to do this to keep it going.

Here is the fix to the problem of the Apple Watch pausing during workouts with the screen locked. I have discovered that with the screen locked, it does not lock the crown and side button. This is by design. So, even with the screen locked if both the crown and side button are pressed at the same time the workout will pause. For me, this happens every time my wrist bends and the workout glove touches both the crown and side button. Now for the fix! Or, rather a work around. You have two options. Option 1, Take off your Apple Watch, Go into settings, General, Orientation, If your Digital Crown is set to right, change it to left and vice versa. Now, switch the the watch bands around and put the longest band nearest the crown. Put the Apple Watch on your wrist. If everything was done correctly, you should be able to view your screen properly and the crown and side button are now on the opposite side and away from your wrist. Now, bending your wrist will not touch the crown or side button and the Apple Watch will not pause during your workout! Option 2, wear your Apple watch on the opposite wrist. This will put the crown and side button on the opposite side and prevent contact when the wrist is bent. Option 1 has saved me a lot of hassle during my workouts and I either option will help you too. Of course, it does take a little adjustment relearning how to press the buttons that are now on the opposite side. Enjoy!

So i've been dealing with the same thing, I was hoping to see that someone had an ultimate fix not a work around. I've sent my watch in to the repair center 3 times, had my watch replaced and the same thing. The only thing that helps the work out issue is turning wrist detection off. This is a major pain because you have to turn it off and on everytime you want to track a work out. And with the latest IOS it requires you to enter your password a bunch of times. Even with turning wrist detection off my heart rate tracker is a joke. Jumps from 60 bpm to 150 out of no where, or stays at 60 when i'm in the middle of a HIT workout. The other problem with turning wrist detection off is the watch then doesn't track the "standing" hours... My other issue i've noticed is the "unlock with iphone" option hardly ever works. Some days my watch is locked allll day other days it'll stay unlocked. Apple needs to own this issue and get the engineers involved big time. Worst apple product i've ever owned; iWatch Series 2 Nike.
