I cannot access content in iTunes from iPod nano

I have a friend's iPod nano, 7th generation, that I am trying to upload her songs to my iTunes library. The iPod shows in iTunes but an error message appears that I cannot access the content and do I want to reset to factory settings. What can I do to fix this without resetting the iPod and losing all of the music?

Sync operations work one way - iTunes to iDevice, and an iDevice can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. These constraints exist specifically to prevent the operation you're attempting - unless you already own the media on your friend's iPod (as CDs or digital downloads), or the artists responsible for it have explicitly stated that it can be shared, what you're attempting is a breach of the artists' intellectual property rights,
