Apr 27, 2015 7:22 PM in response to harrystadby Andrew_R4,Unfortunately, Snow Leopard requires an Intel Processor and iMac 5,1 does not have that, there are two fixes I can think of.
If you still have the original installation disk, pop that in, then hold alt as you turn your computer on, a screen with a disk should pop up, click that, it should boot up with the apple logo. If you had made a backup using time machine (If that is an option in OS X 10.4) plug that in and try to restore your data, if not you may have to freshly install your OS and you may loose data.
