I forgot my passcode, but following the steps didn't work. What do I do?

I forgot my passcode for my iPod (iOS 6.1.5). The storage capacity is at 6.36 GB out of 8 GB. I searched up about it here: Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support , but when I followed the steps, a problem occurred. After I did step 4, before doing step 5, in the iTunes section, it still asked for my passcode. I have done this 3 or 4 times, but there is still no difference. So, what do I do to fix this now?
