Cannot open iPhoto library saved on external HD in new Photos app

My iPhoto library is saved on an external hard drive. I did this because my files were large and I have a lot of pictures. I opened the new Photos app and cannot access my iPhoto library (I opened & pressed 'option' to choose other library). How can I get Photos to recognize these photos, I have tried loading them but do not have enough space on the MBP. I was using the most recent iPhoto 9.6

I have a 13" MBP; 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; 8 GB of memory; running OS X Yosemite

What format is the HD? How are you connected to it?

That's the brand name. We need to know the disk format. Select it in the Finder and go File -> Get Info: What does it say at the indicated point?

That's a Time Machine back up. You can't have your library there. If it's part of a back up, it needs to be restored. Otherwise it needs to be on another disk.

This is what is on my external. I moved my library (biblioteca de fotos) there because it took up too much room on my MBP. I was getting the message that I did not have enough room on my start up disk. Before the Photos install, I would press Option and open iPhoto and choose the library on my external. How do I restore it the way you are suggesting?
