Importing Photos on Imac without adding to Photo-stream

In I-photo when importing to iMac from an SD card there was an option to not add imported photos to Photo-stream, which avoided filling up my iPhone or iPad with lots of unwanted Photos, but photos taken on my I-pad or iPhone were automatically added to Photo-stream on my iMac. This suited my needs and preferred way of dealing with my pictures but I can not find a way of doing this in Photos, it appears you can either have Photo-Stream on or off. Am I missing something?
