ipod touch screen doesn't work

I dropped my ipod on the ground his morning. My screen is not responding to touch. I cannot factory reset it because my home button does not work. My power button DOES work and so do my volume buttons. Since resetting is not an option, how can i get my touch screen to work again?

I have discovered that I may be able to shut down my ipod from my computer at home? I have not tried this yet but will when I get home tonight.

I was wondering if there were an alternative options to this.
