MacBook appears to have lots my login settings

My laptop crashed and upon restarting my log in settings have changed.

Usually i I log in with my Apple ID but there is no option for this. It just says my name and asks for a password. I've tried any passwords which are affiliated with my Mac, but they haven't worked.

This isn't a case of me just being stupid - the blurred out background on the log in screen has reverted back to the default, rather than my own wallpaper.

I have come across an option to reset the password via my Apple ID. However this too says my password is wrong. And I definitely know this one - I logged onto this forum with it!

things I've tried:

- checking caps lock isn't on

- turning it off and on again

Please help!

thanks,

Sarah
