Why won't my iPod synch with my iTunes on my PC?

I have an old iPod Nano that I am using to transfer my library at home to my PC at work. I can see the Music in my iPod but it won't synch? PC is Windows 7, current iTuned and the Nano software is up to date. Many of the songs are from CDs and NOT purchased through iTunes.
