iPhoto worked great; with Photo I can no longer import pictures from my camera. Why?

I never had a single problem importing photos using a USB connection between camera and iMac. Since the new Photos was automatically installed with the latest OS Yosemite update, I no longer can import photos...the screen automatically opens, it shows all the photos on my camera, it allows me to choose which photo(s) I want to import and then I click "Import" and I get a nasty message that my photos to be imported are NOT in the correct format. Well, what the heck format are they supposed to be in? I see nowhere on my camera where I can change a format...

HELP!!!! I need to import photos of my granddaughter's First Communion for my entire family and the photos are stuck on my camera!!

What backup cycle? I don't know what you're talking about...I tried Image Capture and it imported, but it said 4 of the photos were not in the right format (I used the same camera, all are saved on the same card), so don't know why 4 of the photos taken at the very same event (within minutes of each other) are not importable. AND, I have no idea to where those photos were imported, definitely not to Photos...any idea of where they might be??

I just want the same easy direct import like I had with iPhoto.

Backup cycle - running you normally computer backup - you do have a regular backup going don't you?

Image Capture is an application in your Applications folder exactly as I stated

Try Image capture (in your applications folder) or a card Reader - once the photos are safely on your mac and at least one successful backup cycle has run use the camera's format command to reformat the card

In order to import as before you have to solve the problem that you have

In irder to solve the problem you have to read and follow directiopns

Simply posting crazy comments and not fooling directions will not resolve your problem

My camera settings have not changed since I used it with iPhoto...I don't use iCloud at all...I just want to simply attach my camera and have it import like it did before...

I imported photos using Image Capture...it wouldn't import 4 of the photos..they were all taken within minutes of each other, no change in settings, so that remains a mystery...I have zero idea of where these photos were "captured" TO...

I have no idea of the "format"...I just take the photos and download them to iPhoto with no problems...nothing changed with the camera and I see no way to change a format within the camera's menu...I used Image Capture and most imported...but I have no idea of where they were imported TO...definitely not Photos...

this is just a disaster to happen with important family photos...

I've been having the same trouble with my OLD Canon Powershot G6 which imported as your camera does. The files I was trying to import were jpgs (format). I tried image image capture, + other tricks to get the files from the camera to the desktop with no luck, & have just gotten off the phone with a 'senior' Apple support person. She captured files from my computer showing the problem and is referring the issue to the Apple engineers. My guess is that my camera drivers are not compatible with the new software & there are no new drivers available from Canon for this old model -- if that makes sense to you. Once the engineers have checked things out, I may have an answer! If so, I'll list it here. Good luck on your end.

Try this and report back to us. Launch the Photos app. Under the View menu select Show Sidebar. Now plug in your camera to your computer. The camera should mount in the sidebar list. If it does select the camera and you should see the prompts for importing the images from the camera. If the camera does not appear in the sidebar try plugging in your tablet or phone if you have one. They should also appear. If that doesn’t work either then you may have other issues that need to be resolved. I can assure you you CAN import images from your camera into the new Photos app.

My Canon PowerShot DS750 mounts and imports images just fine. If you camera worked with iPhones there’s no reason it shouldn’t work with Photos too.

when you import using Image Capture you specify where to import to - the photo are where you specified

Once you have them safely on your Mac and at least one backup cycle has successfully occurred then use the cameras format command to reformat and erase your memory card - this usually resolves the problem you are having - which is why I suggested it
