Apple Watch Step and Distance Data Incongruity

I have only been using the watch for a day, so I am still getting to grips with some things. I am fairly sure, however, that the step, distance and active calorie data do not correlate as they should. At 13:30 today I had taken 6,566 steps (according to the watch) and walked at least a couple of miles, however the watch reports 0.34 miles and 33 active calories.

Has anybody else noticed this incongruity?
