I had an issue with an older iPhone dropping calls and made an appointment at the Genius Bar. He ran a diagnostics on it and said that they normally had you talk to the carrier first about dropped calls but there were a couple of other issues in the diagnostics that allowed him to give me a replacement phone. Based on that, you may want to talk to your carrier to find out what they say so that when you make an appointment with the Genius Bar that you can let them know you have already taken those steps.
