MacBook Air (2008) Restarting Issue

I am baffled by this issue and was wondering if another MacBook Air (2008) owner is having the same issue or knows of a fix. I am running Yosemite 10.10.3 on a 2008 MacBook Air with 2gb or Ram. When I choose the restart option from the Apple Menu the computer will complete the shutdown process but will not reboot. The light on the front will turn on and stay lit and after a short period of time the fan will come on. I cannot tell if the hard drive is spinning. In order to get the computer to restart I will have to hold the power button for 10 seconds then release and press it again. The computer will then restart. I appreciate any input. Thanks.
