No sound on MacBook Pro

All of a sudden there is no sound on my MacBook Pro. When I change the volume with the keyboard controls I get a canceled symbol like this. User uploaded file

The volume control in the menu bar is greyed out as well. The sound works when headphones are plugged in, it's only when trying to play through the speakers that it doesn't work. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Greetings atticustayar,

After reviewing your post, it sounds like the Mac does not play sound from the speakers. Are the headphones plugged in when you get no sound? I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
