Upgrading RAM could help its performance. You can up till 16GB.

Apparently you have adware on your MBP.  Download and open AdwareMedic to remove same:

    http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

If no success, use these Apple instructions:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987

Also delete Sophos from your MBP.  Not necessary.

    Ciao.

I agree with all of the above. Remove Sophos, eradicate the adware and consider more ram. Also start Activity Monitor, find this process and force quit it   installd

    Hello,

Yes remove all the adware however again the root problem is definitely not RAM but something in the root directories as  this problem has surfaced for me as well com.apple.webkit.webcontent or its some other process that panics with either the kernel task or window server when you don't have Safari open.

My etrecheck is posted here with a person in a similar circumstances. I've checked several blogs / forums / sites that present the following as a problem: finder / pram / safari / or some other process that at the time had critical cpu depending on which application is open. All have similar problems with startup / login  or random pinwheel freezes with periodic intervals.

I tried several solutions clearing caches, resetting, etc. All of the aforementioned solutions merely scratched at the root problem. It is in the software as I have run Yosemite for 6 or 7 months without a problem; however, only now in April 2015, a wave of freezes is happening across quite a lot of macs regardless of hardware from newest iMacs to 2009 MacBooks.

Here is my etrecheck post Slow start and Mac in another thread with a person in similar process problems as the person above.

P.S. Safe boot doesn't help but has same erratic freeze. So don't bother blaming third party plugins.
