Aug 8, 2015 10:41 AM in response to jwalker.homeby JW0921,See you guys are fighting on this issue - Just got a new Macbook 12" space grey on the 1st week of July, has the same issue - check with Apple Store Genius, his reply is as below:
1. This model is designed for mobile people who travels a lot, not design to use at home, so they actually forgot to design an adaptor to hook up with my 27" thunderbolt display
2. But since seems many mac fans are questioning about this one, hope by the end of this year, Apple will launch an adaptor for 12 Macbook to connect with the 27 display
3. So far in the world there is no adaptor in any brand can resolve this yet
So case closed, no solutions yet at this moment to resolve this, I am guessing that guy keeping saying there adaptors is not a 100% Mac User like myself since day one, those adaptors he showed mainly are for PC, not Mac

"In June, Intel introduced Thunderbolt 3 with a USB Type-C connector and support for USB 3.1, DisplayPort 1.2 and PCI Express 3.0..."
But this does not necessarily mean it will work with the (old) Apple Thunderbolt display
