Compressor 4.2 not minimizing file size anymore

Hey guys,

I'm using Compressor to export all of my FCPX projects and to directly minimize their file size.

Until now I've been using a custom Compressor-Setting as shown in this video: https://youtu.be/HGc5juFGx_I

Everything worked fine until yesterday when I finally installed the new updates for FCPX and Compressor. I can still export using my custom-settings, however Compressor doesn't minimize the file size anymore. It doesn't matter which quality-level I select in the compressor-settings.

An example: A 12min h264 Full HD video is now around 1,7GB after exporting it via compressor. Before the update it was around 700MB with the exact same settings.

I've tried lots of things but nothing seems to be working.

Even an older version of Compressor didn't help, so it seems to be a problem with FCPX in combination with compressor.

A friend of mine has experienced the exact same problem. Did anyone else experience this in the last days or does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Just to narrow the possibilities of what may be going on, export one of your projects from Final Cut as a Pro Res master file. Bring that (very big) file into Compressor and apply your custom settings. Is the size of the output file what you would expect…or not?

Please give the exact sizes of the media, the frame rate, and the data rate used.

This is a really old version of FCP. What versions of FCP and of Compressor are you using?

Just did that and the result is the same as when I'm using FCPX with my custom export-setting...

Seems like Compressor is always exporting at 100% quality even if I select 80% or less.

Yes, the video is from 2013 or so.

However I was using these settings with every new version of FCPX or Compressor since then.

Worked perfectly with FCPX 10.1.x and Compressor 4.x

Now with FXPX 10.2 and Compressor 4.2 I'm having these problems...

Please post a screen shot a screen shot of the Inspector Video window for your custom preset. If it is a quickTime file please also post the QT settings window.

I Never even thought those sliders worked in H.264. You shouldn't need to access that in Compressor 4.x. Just dial in the data rate you want to apply.

They actually did until Compressor 4.2.
