hi i had ios security alert while opening safari

hi,i had this ios security alert warning while opening safari today,it wouldn't let me open or close any page and was asking to call this toll free number 0800 652 4895,they took my phone serial # & then asked for £60 but I suspected that it was some sort of scam,by acquiring they hanged up on me.i then call my network provider and with their guidance I recover my phone from back and safari is back running.
I have recover my safari by resting my phone but just want to know that giving my serial number to iossecurityalert.net people could do something to my phone by hacking my details or something?
