Q: can i delete the iphoto library??

Hi everyone,

just wanted to ask, since the photos library came with the new os x update does that mean that all photos from the iphoto library moved to the photos folder? and also does that mean i can delete the iphoto folder to free up some space at all?

thanks

If you've converted the iPhoto library to a Photos library and confirmed that you have all of the items you an delete the iPhoto Library.

HOWEVER, you might want to keep the iPhoto Library around for a while until you're sure the new Photos app will do what you need it to so.  Photos is missing many of iPhotos features that many of us relied on every day, batch changes, different sorting options, etc..  If you have iPhoto 9.6.1 you can continue to use iPhoto until Photos has had some of the features we'd like restored.  Deleting the iPhoto library will not free up space on the hard drive because the Photos library uses hard links to the photos that were in iPhoto at the time of conversion thus not taking up additional space.

    You can

But i suggest you do not

You might want it (you might even need it) and deleting ti saves very little space - Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
