Change keyboard

Hi Apple Support Communities,

I am deciding to buy/order a MacBook Pro with Retina 13inch. The question I have is that if I am buying/ordering this product from a country that its first language is NOT English, for example: China and Taiwan is Chinese. In these countries, if I buy/order a MacBook Pro with Retina 13inch, they will automatically have keyboard with Chinese characters on it, which I DONT WANT the Chinese characters. Is it possible to ask the local retail store/online store from these countries that I want a MacBook Pro Retina 13inch with normal ONLY English characters (like the keyboard in U.S.)? I really don't want the Chinese characters.....

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Nobody in these forums represents Apple or any store. To find out whether you can buy something, you need to contact stores directly yourself or consult their website. For example, when you go the US online store website and select a product for your cart, it will give you a whole list of options for the keyboard. Every store is different in what it offers.

Note that all keyboards with non-English characters like Chinese on them also must have English as well, otherwise you could not type any email addresses.

I think in Taiwan Apple keyboards usually have Chinese on them, while in China they normally do not.

If you are ordering online from Apple, the choice of keyboard you get with your order configuration depends on the country from which you are ordering. For Taiwan, you'll only get the Taiwanese keyboard. From China, you have a choice of several layouts including the standard American layout (with no Chinese characters). This means that if you're buying (physically) in China, there is the possibility that you might find MacBooks with American keyboard layouts but I doubt it will be easy.

Update: There is currently no other keyboard layout from Apple for Mainland China with Chinese characters as far as I know. This is probably because of the popularity of the standardized Chinese romanization used on the mainland which doesn't require any special keyboard for Chinese input. Here is the current list of keyboard choices for ordering from Apple China online. The ones that are not translated are European, Russian or Japanese, so not relevant to this conversation.

背光键盘(美式英语)与使用手册(中文)- Backlit Keyboard (US English) with user manual (Chinese)

背光键盘(英式英语)与使用手册(英语)- British English with English user manual

Taiwanese traditional characters with Chinese user manual

As you can see, nothing specific for mainland China so chances are, if you are buying (physically) in China, you'll probably have no problem finding MacBook (Pro) with standard US keyboard layouts.
