Connecting to Itunes without configuring

Dear applers,

About a year ago, my mother bought herself an Iphone 4. It came with the factory settings. She started using it without signing it up to Itunes, but now she needs Itunes for music. She did not make a back-up copy, and she does not want her Iphone configured as new, because she will lose all her apps ans photo's. (?)

So, here's my question: how do I connect the phone to Ituneswithout erasing it's files?
