Q: FCPX export: Mutliple video tracks in MP4!?
Hello
I noticed something strange today. FCPX sometimes integrates two video tracks in MP4-Files when exporting. Can anybody explain why this happens?
I exported a bunch of MP4s with different lengths out of FCPX using "Share for Apple Devices 720p". (Same settings for every file: 1280x720px, Format: Computer, Quick Conversion)
Then I tried to import them in Compressor. Some worked, some didn't. So I started to have a closer look at them, trying to find the differences.
MediaInfo revealed the following:
Normal MP4-File, working in Compressor:
Video ID : 2 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L3.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 2 frames Codec ID : avc1 Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding Duration : 21mn 13s Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 12.0 Mbps Maximum bit rate : 768 Kbps Width : 1 280 pixels Height : 720 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 25.000 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.521 Stream size : 1.78 GiB (98%) Title : Core Media Video Encoded date : UTC 2015-04-24 12:07:30 Tagged date : UTC 2015-04-24 12:16:09 Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.709 Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.709
Video file with two video tracks, not working in Compressor:
Video #1 ID : 2 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L3.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 2 frames Codec ID : avc1 Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding Duration : 10mn 13s Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 12.0 Mbps Maximum bit rate : 768 Kbps Width : 1 280 pixels Height : 720 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 25.000 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.521 Stream size : 878 MiB (98%) Title : Core Media Video Encoded date : UTC 2015-04-30 07:19:31 Tagged date : UTC 2015-04-30 07:23:28 Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.709 Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.709 Video #2 ID : 4 Format : JPEG Codec ID : jpeg Duration : 10mn 13s Duration_FirstFrame : -9mn 17s Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 664 bps Width : 1 280 pixels Height : 720 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 0.002 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Compression mode : Lossy Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.360 Stream size : 81.1 KiB (0%) Title : Core Media Video Encoded date : UTC 2015-04-30 07:19:31 Tagged date : UTC 2015-04-30 07:23:28
So the working files contained one AVC-Video track, while the others contained an AVC- and a JPEG-track.
Anybody knows, how this happens?
I do have some chapter markers set in the timeline of most of the videos and include the markers in the export but as far as I have seen, that didn't make a difference...
iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), FCPX 10.1.4, Compressor 4.1.3
