Can I revert a refurbished Mac Pro to Mavericks?

If I get a refurbished late 2013 Mac Pro and it has Yosemite installed, I should be able to revert to Mavericks, right?

Xserve, OS X Server, Xserve 2,1 running 10.6.8

Yes, that is correct, HOWEVER...

...the currently installed software will try to prevent you from installing anything older than itself. The way to accomplish what you are suggesting is to make TWO Backups of your data, erase your drive completely, and then Install.
