Is the HP printer connected via USB, through a wireless network?
For a network connection, have you tried rebooting your router by unplugging its power for 10 seconds?
Allow it 2-3 minutes to start and reboot both the printer and the Mac, may you see any difference then?
For a USB, is it directly connected to your Mac? how long is the cable?

May 2, 2015 6:21 AM in response to ShlomiLby seräkare,Hey ShlomiL, thanks for reaching out.
I use a standard USB cable to connect from my printer to my computer, I also tried a backup cable.
Strangely enough, the issue resolved itself during a span of a few minutes when I was just hitting "print" over and over again in a blind rage.
Whatever ghost was in the machine might still be around, but I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again!

May 2, 2015 7:49 AM in response to seräkareby Riverrat712,I just brought a new Macbook Pro 13" 10,10.2 early 2015 and my old HP diskjet 3940 doesn't work, Yes I know its a cheap printer and worked with my old Macbook 13" late 2008 with 10.4. which the HD died.
Guess I will have to go buy another printer but why should I have to which up to 3 weeks ago it worked great. I will be watching to see if there are any work arounds for this problem.
------------
I might add that this new Macbook Pro 13" 10,10.2 early 2015 is outstanding with its boot up time, open up new apps speed and the new apps Apple has changed. Hats off to another great Apple product other than the old printer not working with 10.10.2
