How can I forward an imessage thread to an email address?

I understand that you would like to be able to forward messages to an email address so that you can save and print them. To do this, please refer to the instructions to Forward a message described in the iOS 8 User Guide (page 79) in the link attached below.

Forward a message. Touch and hold a message or attachment, tap More, select additional items if desired, then tap .

I followed your instructions but it didn't work. When I hit the curly arrow on the lower right corner, it created a new iMessage. I keyed in my email address and it was sent out as an iMessage.
