Get the latest version of Safari for your Mac - Apple Support
I can't see it in the App store.
If you can't find it in the store you will need to reinstall the OS - Safari is included with it.
Backup, just in case.
Boot into recovery mode by holding cmd+R at startup.
Connect the Mac to an ethernet connection (for best speed & network stability).
Choose the 'Reinstall OS X' option to get the OS installer to download & install.
It will not overwrite or delete your user files/ third path applications by default, it will just reinstall the system files, but do make a backup first.
EDIT: Forget about recovery mode you won't have it on 10.6.8, reinstall the OS from the DVD instead.
Or try one of the downloads for 10.6.8, I think they are only updates so they may not work at all since you have no app to update.

May 1, 2015 7:32 AM in response to mark_bgdby Eric Root,You can install Yosemite if you want, but you will probably need to add RAM as it doesn't run too well on 2GB. More RAM is better.
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

If you want to stay with 10.6, try Firefox which is still being updated.
