Hello there, abruzzigirl.

Definitely a great question on wanting to properly care for your Apple Watch. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information on how to do just that:

Cleaning and wearing Apple Watch - Apple Support

Clean and dry your band

For leather:

  1. Wipe down the band with the same type of cloth recommended for cleaning the Apple Watch. If needed, you can lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water.
  2. Leather bands aren't water resistant. Soaking them might cause discoloration, skin irritation, or other damage.
  3. Let the band air dry. Direct sunlight, high temperatures, and humid conditions can cause damage.

For all other bands, buckles, and closures:

  1. Wipe down the band with a recommended cloth. If needed, you can lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water.
  2. Dry the band with a recommended cloth.

I have a white band too. And the same problem only mine has a slight greenish colour rather than blue. I have tried soap and water, iKlear spray, and even the water free hand cleaner... bit risky I know as it contains alcohol. NO luck at all. I clean off any dirty but the staining remains. This is clearly some form of dye that has discoloured the band material. If you find an answer please let us all know and I will do the same!

Mine--heavy grass/sweat stain on WHITE band. Did NOT become like new but finally what "almost" got it clean (Spray/Wash spray and concentrated stick ALONG with circular motions of "rough" side of kitchen sponge and/or toothbrush). Paste of Baking soda (100% bicarb) helped get a little left off at the end but not 100%. Auto polishing cream "may" have helped. At the end I am still left with some stain (pays to clean more often AND like other--just DON"T buy the white band!!). What I tried after getting bulk of green stain off that did NOT work 100% includes 70% isopropyl, automobile polish, 100% bicarbonate paste (baking soda), toothpaste, jewelry cleaner, vinyl cleaner of no value, clorox did nothing at beginning or end, vinegar at the end, lemon juice, I left almost all products tested on for extended periods of time AND used the "rough" side of kitchen sponges meant for non-stick cooking pans OR a toothbrush. Paper towels with cleaners useless and in fact, be careful with paper towels. I almost inadvertently got some red stain from paper towel onto my band again!!!

I've had a black sports model for about 3 weeks. Wore it to the gym a few times (yes, I got sweat on the rubber band), washed it with warm soapy water but the band still looks as if the top layer of the rubber is peeling or wearing off! I have not used any alcohol cleaners (Apple says not to) and I haven't exposed the band to any other liquids or chemicals besides sweat and water.

Any ideas? I've tried cleaning it now 3x with warm soapy water and even tried the soft cleaning cloth but have had no luck. This is ridiculous for a band that is supposedly made of the highest quality rubber compound.

I was told not to use the Mr. Clean magic products as they can definitely ruin the surface.

Picture shows no improvement after cleaning with warm soapy water, then towel drying.

I am cleaning my light- and dark blue fluoroelastomer bands frequently with eco-friendly dish soap under warm water. The light blue one is the band that came with my Apple Watch Sport well over a year ago and the dark-blue one now is about a year old. So far no discoloration or flaking, both look like new.

I do remember seeing some posts early after the Apple Watch Sport came out where people complained about specifically the black band flaking.
