Does the iPhone mirror the image when taking a photo

Recently someone posted a picture of them in the driver seat of their car. The picture was taken from behind, over their shoulder, so you could only see the back of their head, part of the steering wheel and what was out the front windshield. The person says that they live in USA but In the image, the steering wheel is on the right side of the vehicle. I mentioned that the steering wheel was on the wrong side for someone living in the USA but they said that when taking a selfie with an iphone it mirrors the image.

I have an iphone 4s (I have not updated the software in awhile). On my phone, it does not mirror an image as the person says theirs did.

Does the new iphones mirror the image? Or Is the person lying about that? If the person is lying and the picture was taken in Europe, then it means they're lying about all the context that led to them taking the picture in the first place, which is kind of a big deal in this case.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

I drive a UK market Citroen, my steering wheel is on 'the other side' as I am currently living in the USA

Do you know what the car is, and which side the wheel is on?
