Photos keep seeing old pics as new, importing ad nauseum.

I have 1474 photos that are showing up as new on my iPad, which I don't even use to take photos. Photos is almost unusable. It constantly shuffles my photos from one Event to another, bungs up the dates they were taken, etc. I think I might try only using lightroom and just scrapping Photos altogether. I was using Lightroom for my digital camera photos and Photos mostly for my iPhone photos but I'm actually taking a lot more photos on my iPhone and wondering if Lightroom might be a better solution to organize them.

Your post makes no sense

Photos does not have events so it is impossible for it to shuffle photos between events

and in no case does it "bung Up" (what ever that means) dates or anything else - nothing in the original imported photo is ever changed n any way and it always can be exported

You need to stop the hyperbole, editorials and threadJacking need start your own thread with specifics of your issue and details of your set up and a clear, concise question

I was relating my experience of using Photos which perfectly mirrors the issues the OP is facing. That is, I have 1474 photos that are showing up as new that aren't new. I'm adding evidence to a problem that Apple is clearly not making an effort to address.

Events, which I have used to organize my photos since 2004, and of which I have over 300, are preserved under Albums as iPhoto Events. I've had ongoing problems with every iteration of Apple's photo-mismanaging software confusing the dates of photos, and effectively randomly shuffling them between the places I've spent considerable time attempting to organize them into. The problems with iPhoto Events, preserved and now heightened with Photos have been going on for a long time.

Hi! I just had this problem for quite a Long time now. What I did was turn off iCloud Photo library in my iPhone. Then connected it to the computer. Open image capture and delete all images images from the iPhone. Then turn back on iCloud photo library. It is now synchronizing all the images back.

As of now I have yet to see the issue back.

I have never, ever had that box checked. I have had the problem, no matter what, on three different iOS devices; and the problem continues to this day.

Imagine having over 17 thousand photos ... probably 4 duplicate copies of every photo I've taken. Huge problem.

you need two things

1 - fix your workflow so you stop creating duplicates

2 - purchase software to help you find and delete the ones you have

Safe, tested software includes PowerPhotos, Duplicate Annihilator for Photos and PhotoSweeper for Photos - I suggest you not experiment with untested software

PowerPhotos is the iPhoto Library Manager version for Photos and is very powerful. Although more expensive I would recommend it as it has more capabilities than the others like the capability to merge Photos libraries or copy photos along with their metadata between libraries.

A possible workaround to this problem is to have Photos delete the pictures after importing them. That way next time the device is attached and ready for importing, the photos will not show up again as they will not exist on the device.

Pretty lame workaround eh? I've tried it and it's ok for pictures that I have imported in the past and deleted later as I do not really like the photos or need another copy of them in my Photos library.

I can confirm that this problem is still present in macOS Sierra and Photos version 2.0 when working with referenced files (on a local system drive, before any forum troll surfaces). i.e. photos already imported are identified as new, even though all file information (time, date, etc) is consistent between unmodified files.

I've reported this as a bug to Apple and recommend others do the same.

Out of interest, has anyone seen this bug when importing photos their Photos library? (i.e. not leaving photos in their original, referenced location)

I've had this problem for quite a while. Photos keeps wanting to import the same photos again and again.

I'm running the latest version of El Capitan on a late 2011 17" Macbook Pro. I have an iPhone 6+ running iOS 10.0.2, and I have an iCloud account and use it for all my photos.

I tried rebuilding the photos library. That didn't work.

Then I tried importing the photos into a new test library. I disconnect and reconnected my phone and that worked. Photos didn't ask to import the photos again. However as soon as I opened my regular library, Photos wanted to import the same old photos.

I think I'll try creating a new library and importing all the photos from my problem library. The only way I can think to do this is to create a new library, then right-click the old library and select "see package contents" and then drag and drop all the photos from this library into Photos with a new empty library.

LATEST OPERATING System RELEASE for Mac Fixed THE ISSUE. I HAVE THE 7 plus but if you update your phone to iOS 10 and download newest operating system to your Mac it is all fixed.

Actually, I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but since my photo library is in iCloud, I just created a new library and turned on iCloud and download my photos to the new library. I just renamed my old library and moved it to a back up.

I know this isn't a solution for those whose library lives on their computers, but if you use iCloud for your photos, this will solve the problem of duplicate importing.
