Photos keep seeing old pics as new, importing ad nauseum.

Searched a while for this solution, but can't find anything specific.

Every time I sync my iPhone 5s to my MacBook Pro (Yosemite) Photos app, randomly old photos show up as "New Photos" and it wants to re-import them. Again and again. It's usually the same 7-8 pics the last few times, and it is getting tiresome.

I've been clicking "Import All New Photos" in the hopes it will mark them as already imported, but the next time, there they are once more.

Photos has been a frustrating step backwards, and confusing even for long-time Mac enthusiasts like me, but getting this solved would go a long way towards accepting this new software.

Thoughts? thanks!

I had the same issue. after trying so many time finally i find the solution / trick for that. you need to export it those photos to your mac and save it with different / new name in your mac. User uploaded file

Now you can delete the photo from other device or iCloud, go back to your mac and open the saved photo with photo app.

hope it work for you as well.

Me too, started after I did an attempted photos library merge.

Needed photos have been LOST.

It is not possible to merge photos libraries adn your question has nothing to do with this thread of seeing old photos as new - to get help please start your own thread with details of your system and problem - ThreadJacking other threads is rude and does not work well since your problem has nothing at all to do with the question

I had the similar problem even using Win10 with iPhone SE and Live Gallery for import photos (not using iCloud), but hope that the rootcause might be the same in case of MAC. In my case it has appeared after upgrade to Win10. I think the problem is more general - somewhere in the computer registry is stored, which photos and when have already been imported from specific device. You basically need to repair this record and tell the computer, that "photos UW..XY" have already been imported and thus are not new. I did following:

  1. backup iPhone via iTunes and eject iPhone after backup
  2. delete all the photos in the Live Gallery (in its specific folder in the computer) - if you are not sure, rather back up them too
  3. connect iPhone to PC again
  4. let Live Gallery to import all photos from iPhone again
  5. then when you shoot new pictures and connect it to PC again in order to import it, only the new ones are imported

My apologies for unclarity, but I am having the exact same problem mentioned in this thread.

The last three Photos imports from my iPhone have resulted in old (10 years+) photos from my library showing up in the place of the new ones that should have come in from my iPhone.

Regrettably, I had Photos delete after import, so the photos are lost.

I mentioned my library change because that seemed to be the time the behavior started. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but now it's clear it was not.

Correction

Should quit iTunes first before re-launch Photo

Steps below:

1. Connect iPhone to Computer

2. Launch Photo, at this point, old pictures will appear as new

3. Quit Photo

4. Launch iTunes

5. Select iPhone icon and click on eject

6. Quit iTunes

7. Re-launch Photo, this time, only real-new picture will appear

No such luck trying this. The problem only started for me when I updated iPhone 6S to iOS 11x This is extremely frustrating and seems to be getting worse after I updated iTunes as well. Initially, only about 40 old photos were appearing as new. Now, I have 400+ old photos appearing as new. Some > 2 year old. Apple - Please advise!! The updates are the worst. My phone is draining much quicker and is acting slower...

Edited to add I'm running a Late 2011 Macbook Pro on OS X El Capitan. Though, this problem seems to impact even much newer devices.

OK after a day trying to sort this I found out it is procedural (my fault). As all my devices had iCloud enabled there was no need to connect my iPhone to the computer anymore. My iPhone X, with plenty of memory, was downloading photos from the cloud... it then thought they needed to be imported to my iMac when I connect it via USB. No need to connect the iPhone at all as everything is already synced by the cloud.

I do have an excuse... sometimes it takes hours to sync as I have very slow Broad Band so it appears initially that syncing has not worked and my latest photos have not been entered into the Photos program.... so I connect the iPhone.

Not Apples fault! Thank you Enrick for your help from Apple Support (it was not picked up by others I spoke to).

Photos keep seeing old pics as new, importing ad nauseum.
