somehow mackeeper ended up on my laptop recently and i can't find it in the apps list to move it to trash. how do I get rid of it?

Have you tried Spotlight?
If no success, download EasyFind. Sometimes it succeeds when Spotlight fails:

Why do you think that "MacKeeper" is installed? If it is, there will be an item with that name in the Applications folder.
