Can you use a 512GB Samsung SSD (655-1805a) pulled from a Macbook Air to upgrade a 256GB stock Flash SSD in a 2013 Mac Pro?

If so, would you lose performance?

Yes, that SSD is quite a bit slower than the one that ships in Mac Pro 6,1

Use it in a USB SSD USB3 dock as a backup system.

ebay is your best place and almost only for OEM Apple/Samsung devices, new, not used and less than BTO.
