Mac Mini seems slow and struggles and looses wifi.

New to this community and the Apple world. Have a 2-3 year old Mac Mini that I just moved from one side of the room to a location to use more frequently. I have done all the updates and am running Yosemite 10.10.3. Looked thru the forums and noticed many people recommended running the Etresoft program to help forum members get a idea of what what on peoples Mac's. Here is mine:

Problem description:

Slow running and appears to loose wifi signal.

Based on reading some items, the slowness might be due to the fact that my Memory is a little lacking? Regarding the wifi, not sure what the deal is. Mini is now about 30 feet from router. Mac Air has not problem, iPad has no problem. and two Apple TV's, both wireless, seem to have no problem. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for your follow-up question.

By slow, it seems I get the wheel of death a lot when attempting to open programs, Word, Excel, Outlook or even Mail. When opening Safari, it is slow to open the pages and sometimes I get the wheel of death when it is opening them.

Moving closer or farther from the router doesn't seem to have any affect on these issues. None that I can tell at least.

Thanks again for any help you can provide.

Your slow speed could be due to interference. You are on the 2.4 GHz band and you show many other networks that are likely on the the 2.4 GHz band. There are also other devices on/near the 2.4 GHz band like microwave ovens and cordless phones.

You Mac support the 5 GHz N band which is usually faster because of less interference. On my 2009 Mac Pro I get a transmit (TX) rate of 243 on 5 GHz N band, With my 2013 Mac Pro I get 585 on the new ac 5 GHz band.

I'm relatively new to the world of Mac, but have bought 2 MacMini's recently. Both identical. the first has a rock solid wifi connection, the second never had a solid connection until I called for support.

The lady had me click my wifi connection, Go into network and look at my wifi connection. She had me delete it. There may have been a re-boot.

I then added it back and moved it up to the top preference. (it was the top preference as well when we started.) I then clicked on the tcp/ip tab and be sure it was on Using DHCP. That was it.

She didn't know if she helped or not, and we said good by. I have not lost the connection since and my wifi is much faster than it has ever been on either of the mini's.

Since then, I have read that this is the standard fix for wifi woes.

Give it a shot, there is nothing to loose.

Mac Mini seems slow and struggles and looses wifi.
