My HP 8250 will no tprint photos from iphoto

I am a new Mac owner and waited until the new dual core imac came out because I wanted the best computer Apple offered. I also purchased a new HP Photosmart 8250 to go along with it because the imac would not work with my older HP photo printer. Here lies my frustration. The printer said it was compatible with the 1mac and it was even sold in the imac store so I assumed it would be a good choice. I loaded the appropriate drivers for the imac but I could not print any photos. The printer has two trays, one for photo paper and the other for 8x11 printer paper. When I printed from iphoto, it always defaulted to the 8x11. I spent many hours with imac support and HP support. imac support said it was a driver issue with HP and HP said it was a software issue with iphoto because I could print just fine if I used the HPZone software that came with the printer. As it is now, I have a temporary solution from a imac support representative but the solution is totally unacceptable for my wife.
Now if I want to print a photo I have to open iphoto where I can then manipulate it and format it but then I have to save it and remember where I placed so that I can then close iphoto and then open HPZone to reopen the manipulated photo. From there I have to go through no less than 6 steps to tell the computer what paper format I am using and that it must switch from the main tray to the photo tay for the right paper. If I try to do the same with iphoto, I get a "lined out" message saying that iphoto is not compatible with printer and to check for software update. I have downloaded numerous updates to iphot since I purchased it with no resolution and have also checked the HP website but they have no updates of the drivers specifically for OS X v10.4 Right now I am tempted to dumped the dual purpose prnter and buy two diffrent ones so that hopefully iphoto can at least be able to talk to them individually. Has anyone else had these problems. and oh yes...I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers numerous times under the guidance of imac support. My wife won't even use the imac now because it is too complicated and wants a windows pc again.
