The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store. This shows up when I open I photo, and when I try to look for the update, its not there! What can I do?

Drop your existing copy of iPhoto in the trash, don't empty it yet. Go to your purchases list in the Mac App Store and download a new copy, it will be current.

I have tries this. I put iPhoto in the trash and then went on purchases. But instead of downloading it it gives me the option of opening the application. When i try to do this it still doesn't work?

That means that the Store is seeing another version of iPhoto somewhere on the HD - even an alias. So make sure you've put all instances of the iPhoto app (not the iPhoto Library) into the trash.

I have searched for iPhoto in finder and it doesn't come up with any other software associated with iPhoto. I then looked on the launchpad and iPhoto is still there so am confused as to how I am able to remove all software of iPhoto when I can't find any others (still saying open on purchases instead of download)

To delete an app using Launchpad:

Click the Launchpad icon in theDock, hold down an app’s icon until all the icons begin to jiggle, then click an app’s delete button . If you later want the app, you can reinstall it from the Mac App Store.

iPhoto isn't showing up on launchpad and I dropped it in trash from the taskbar thing. It's still not showing up in purchased on App Store. Anywhere else I can look for it?

I searched in Finder and deleted what was in the Applications folder. It's still not showing up under Purchased
