-50 rendering error when trying to add video clips to iMovie

What it says:

-50 rendering error when trying to add iphone video clips into iMovie.

It won't let me export my project 😟

I've narrowed it down and when I take out the video clips the exporting works so I assume it's the video clip files.

What can be done??

GarageBand '08, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
