Q: how to unlock a generation 6 iPod touch?  lockup happened during last ios upgrade

while upgrading an iPod touch to the latest ios using my XP-Pro laptop the iPod lockup and will no longer connect to the computer.  I actually have two iPods with this same issue.

 

one has a blue connect to iTunes icon and the other one has a red connect iTunes icon.  the computers in question are running Windows XP with iTunes 12.

 

Nay ideas on how to resolve this issue?
