Facetime is hanging at the "Connecting' stage

Facetime was working absolutely fine, then yesterday it has just stopped. It rings but when the person answers it just hangs at the 'Connecting' phase and then eventually times out. I have tried rebooting, changing location and time settings etc etc. Im in the UAE, but it was connecting just fine with the VPN up until yesterday.

Any ideas anyone??
