How do I reinstall the OSX?

I've been advised that (quote) 'it's likely a problem with your OS install rather than the hard drive. It’s time consuming, but you might try reinstalling OS X on your primary startup hard drive.

Because my iMac has no install disk I presume it's done some other way.

Can someone please advise me. Thanks.

Hi PJRS,

Many thanks for your information reply, it certainly did help.

I noticed that, after I'd chosen the Mountain Lion reinstall, it stated 'checking to see if this computer is valid' or words to that effect. Does that mean I can't use the reinstall after my Apple Warranty expires?

Makey.
